VitaSol Thermal Baths: KLAFS adds transparent bathing attraction.
Schwäbisch Hall, October 2009. The spa town of Bad Salzuflen marked Whitsun by opening a new bathing area at the VitaSol Thermal Baths, where extensive reconstruction works have been undertaken to deliver a unique expansion of bathing facilities. All this provides guests with a completely new spa experience. The single tub which once stood on the site has been replaced by a diverse range of attractions. These include an intensive brine tub featuring 12 % brine and two glass steam and brine heat experiences designed by "4a Architekten" and realised by leading spa supplier KLAFS. The textile area between the pool and solariums is now home to these two transparent heat experiences through which the bathing room almost appears to flow. The glass steam bath, which features red and black tiling, a free-standing steam chimney and a bench, is located directly under the gallery at VitaSol. The steam bath reinvigorates and cleanses the skin of the bathers as well as promoting blood circulation by operating at a relative humidity of 100 % and at a temperature of 43 to 46 °C. The glass brine bath exclusively realised for VitaSol by KLAFS is right next door. The brine bath features a graduation house, a structure to remove water from saline solution, originally used in salt manufacture, and bathers take up a position in its transparent centre where they are surrounded by ambient air containing 8 % brine. This air is generated by passing brine over the graduation house, which is made of blackthorn brushwood. The brine then evaporates and is distributed to the surrounding air. Brine inhalation cabins of this kind offer a number of special characteristics: Saline solutions exert a positive effect on the body's respiratory system as bathers relax and breathe in. They also benefit the sinuses and are particularly good for the lungs. Whilst all this is happening, guests can lean back in comfort on the green and black benches and enjoy a view of the new pool area. The extraordinary design on which the brine cabin is based has afforded KLAFS the opportunity to showcase its expertise in a way which perfectly matches the thermal baths landscape at Bad Salzuflen. In optical terms, the connection between the two glass cabins and the asymmetrically designed pool area fits harmoniously into the new VitaSol bathing concept. This has been achieved via a uniform shaping featuring rounded edges and corners. The decorative mosaic tiles in the pool area are also reflected in the steam and brine bath. Interior designer Ernst Ulrich Tillmanns from “4a Architekten” in Stuttgart has taken an organic approach to the way the tubs are arranged. The glass-walled steam and brine bath enables guests to enjoy a first-hand view of the new architecture of the bathing hall at the VitaSol Thermal Baths. Two interior and two exterior pools provide a total water surface area of 1,700 m² and offer numerous water attractions such as whirlpool benches, massage jets, a counter-current channel and flood showers. All these features enable the guests to have great fun during their spa visit. The healthy saline water from the VitaSol hot springs 1,000 m below Bad Salzuflen is a further attraction. The intensive brine tub, a hot and cold tub and a whirlpool tub all contain a 12 % brine solution and provide a genuine sea bathing experience. Guests find it easier to move, and the buoyant floating experience they enjoy provides a real tonic for both body and mind. For good measure, the facility also features a shimmering rain cloud which delivers powerful and warm summer rain over rain area” of the pool hall. The concept realised by the VitaSol Thermal Baths features its own spring, harmonious architecture and exclusive heat experiences and delivers what it promises in every regard: vitality and the joy of brine bathing.
