The roots of the sauna.

Warmth has always been a luxury in temperate zones. The cleaning of the body, and therefore the soul, has always been a human desire. It was more practical not to heat a whole tub full of water, instead, heating a few stones inside a room or hole in the ground with much less energy input created sufficient warmth. It is not only the Finns that look back on a long tradition, also the North American Indians practiced this technique, which are known as "sweat huts" and are gaining in popularity with esoteric additions. Of Russian origin is the steam bath, but this too was used by the ancient Romans in the south and central European region. They perfected the art by placing rooms with different temperatures and humidity levels after each other. In the Orient, Hamam sweat baths offer massages in addition - this, too, has a long tradition. In Central Europe, the bathing parlours were a feature of the middle ages. In those times, hygienic conditions were not the best and became poorer over time when the bathing parlours were closed down one after the other, because the church suspected unmoral behaviour. On the other hand, one believes that they spread diseases as well. In Finland, on the other hand, the sauna tradition never ended and today Finland without the sauna is unimaginable. Finnish athletes helped spread the idea, because they did not want to miss out on the sauna training. The relaxation and therefore intensive muscle regeneration is much appreciated by athletes around the world. In the 20th century, as the Finnish tradition became more widespread, the focus was on an exact scientific study of the sauna and its effects. Today, we coming back to the Finnish laissez-faire: Sauna is fun and enjoyable, without many rules, a lower temperature with more raponsing here or hotter and drier there.
