HOW KLAFS IS SHAPING THE FUTURE OF SPA DESIGN
Standing still means taking a step backwards: Especially as the market leader, a company can never rest on its laurels, but rather must always press ahead – and that’s exactly what KLAFS does.
Heat and cold: Relaxing highlights
To maximise the health benefits of sauna sessions and optimaly relax the body in the best possible way, KLAFS has reimagined the combination of heat and cold – and perfected the wellness experience with innovative highlights: the automatic infusion ceremony of the VITALITY BOOST offers an intense heat training, while the FRIMAS ice steam room ensures gentle, moist cooling. KLAFS offers operators of wellness facilities a versatile programme that showcases the beneficial interaction of heat and cold in innovative ways. Sauna bathers can choose between intensive and gentle applications and design their time-out entirely according to their needs. This promotes the relaxation of the guests and allows them to immerse themselves in new worlds of relaxation.
Infinite infusions – no fuss
VITALITY BOOST with ENYA infusion bowl and the fanning unit integrated into the ceiling.
Infusion ceremonies provide intense, health-promoting heat training and are very popular with sauna guests. With the VITALITY BOOST, KLAFS has developed the perfect solution for this trend: an automatic infusion system with precise air swirling that effectively complements the popular sauna events. The integrated infusion and swirling technology evenly distributes the rising heat and humidity throughout the cabin. In this way, the VITALITY BOOST promotes an effective sweat bath and is a valuable upgrade for every sauna. Operators of wellness facilities can thus offer their guests an exclusive spa experience with infusion ceremonies of consistently high quality even in spas without a sauna master or in the case of staff shortages.
Natural cooling
The FRIMAS ice steam room with the HOLLI ice steam shower, the STALAGMIT ice fountain and the GLACIER ice wall.
To help the body relax after heat training, KLAFS has enhanced its programme with a gentle form of wellness cooling. The FRIMAS ice steam room provides refreshment year-round and offers gentle, health-beneficial cooling after the sauna. To achieve this, various forms of water merge into a unique wellness concept: the Arctic ice wall GLACIER cools the room to between 0 and 5 °C, while the HOLLI ice steam shower spreads dancing ice crystals and cool, moist air. Snow, mist and ice bring the body into a soothing balance – without directly exposing it to a strong cold stimulus and overwhelming it. There’s no better way to start the relaxation phase after a sauna.
Steam Bathing with Foam. The New ESPURO®
Inspiring design: the ESPURO® foam steam bath.

A new era of holistic health
The desire for profound relaxation for the body and mental well-being characterizes the current wellness trends. After all, holistic health, sustainability and conscious living are more important than ever.
Short breaks instead of parties, silence instead of constant availability and closeness to nature instead of sensory overload - quality time and sustainable regeneration are increasingly coming to the fore and becoming an essential part of our lives. Wellness solutions are becoming more and more accessible in the private sphere and are inspiring people to adopt a mindful lifestyle and active health care. Compact, highly aesthetic saunas and steam baths with modern technologies support this trend. KLAFS - a pioneer in the sauna, spa and wellness sector - shows where the journey is heading and provides insights into the most important wellness trends that will shape the future.
Multi-sensory experiences
Nature, technology and design merge to create a new dimension of well-being. The idea of wellness is constantly evolving. It is no longer just about the traditional spa treatment, but about a multi-sensory experience that appeals to all the senses. KLAFS is shaping this trend with innovations for saunas and spas in an incomparable way. The latest KLAFS saunas and steam baths combine innovative functions with natural elements and integrate sound and color ceremonies as well as aromatherapy to create an immersive atmosphere for holistic relaxation. Innovations such as the ESPURO® foam steam bath or the S11 Design by Studio F. A. Porsche sauna take wellness time-out to a new level by specifically promoting both physical and mental health.

Multifunctional applications
Saunas are undergoing a transformation and are evolving into holistic, multifunctional retreats that offer more than just the effect of heat. Additional applications such as infrared or dry salt inhalation, which can be individually integrated into your own wellness concept, take the traditional sauna experience to a new level of well-being. The deep-acting infrared radiation, for example, directs the heat specifically at the back, shoulders or neck area and eases painful cramps. Joint pain caused by wear and tear and other non-specific back pain can also be alleviated with this application. With the handy Microsalt SaltProX, KLAFS also makes the positive effect of dry salt available simply and everywhere. The patented technology produces a fine salt mist that is distributed throughout the cabin. Regular inhalation of microscopically fine salt particles cleanses and moisturizes the airways in a targeted manner. They penetrate deep into the lungs, promote mucus clearance and support the regeneration of the airways and vocal cords. Low humidity, such as in a sauna, creates a special microclimate with a high concentration of salt aerosol, which intensifies the effect.
Additional applications such as salt inhalation with the Microsalt SaltProX and infrared deep heat with the InfraPLUS seat expand the individual options for active health care in the sauna.

Sustainability in the focus
The topic of sustainability and the careful use of resources also remain in focus. With solutions such as the GREEN SAUNA package or the insulating glass fronts, KLAFS has set itself the goal of minimizing the ecological footprint of the sauna. These equipment elements ensure that the heat from the sauna is stored in the cabin for longer and that energy consumption is generally reduced. However, the commitment to sustainability goes beyond pure energy efficiency. KLAFS uses sustainable materials - such as wood from responsibly managed forests. Many KLAFS saunas have therefore been awarded the Blue Angel, the quality seal for particularly low-emission products made of wood and wood-based materials. This underlines the responsible use of resources and gives users a consistently positive feeling during their regular wellness routine - a further step towards sustainable relaxation.
As always, wood remains the most important construction material for saunas – because only wood is capable of storing warmth evenly during
the heating phase and then emitting it gently. In addition, wood absorbs the moisture that fills the air when water is poured over the sauna stones, and keeps the humidity inside the sauna.
Responsibility towards nature
Sustainability is of central importance to KLAFS. That is why certified wood from sustainable forestry is used. KLAFS has been awarded various seals of approval for this, such as the Blue Angel, which all element saunas in hemlock, spruce and walnut and all solid wood saunas in hemlock bear. This environmental label recognises companies for their commitment.
Spa en Suite
Cocooning, safety, privacy – these trends are also changing what guests need in a hotel. For hoteliers, this raises the question: where and under what conditions will hotel guests feel comfortable? KLAFS provides insight into future-proof private wellness.
Important impetus for the entire industry
KLAFS products always lead the way: Design, a spirit of invention and unusual ideas have made us the innovation driver in the entire sauna and spa industry.
S1 SAUNA – very small at the push of a button
The latest result of this power of innovation is a real revolution on the sauna market: the S1 SAUNA, which is the first sauna in the world to pack into a tiny space at the touch of a button – just like a zoom lens on a camera. "This innovation now makes it possible to convert significantly more hotel rooms into private spa suite quickly, easily and with little construction effort”, says Andreas Erke excitedly. The big potential of this revolutionary idea, especially for hotels, was also recognised by the jury of the Intergastra Innovation Award 2016 – who also awarded our Sauna S1.
Planning & Design by experts
Thanks to our successful cooperation with big international players in the architecture and design scene, such as Matteo Thun, Norman Foster or Mario Botta – just to name a few – we are always in touch with the times”, says Andreas Erke, Head of Architecture and Design at KLAFS, explaining one of the central recipes for success.
The many architecture and planning offices that cooperate exclusively with KLAFS in the spa sector especially appreciate the very special expertise of Andreas Erke and his team, which can be incorporated into the respective concept and design process with different intensities depending on the project configuration.
One current example of a successful design process is the castle thermal baths at Schlosstherme Weissenhaus, which was recently voted as “Europe's most beautiful beach hotel” by an expert jury of the magazine GEO Saison.
"Thanks to the close cooperation, we can always ensure that our customers' individual wishes and expectations as well as the ideas of the respective architect or planner are carried over into an ideal product concept, which perfectly fits with the respective property and its guests”, Andreas Erke knows from experience.
References around the world: Spa concepts that inspire
KLAFS has been creating spaces of relaxation for body and soul since 1928. “We are proud that the professional world repeatedly confirms our unique spa concepts”, emphasises Andreas Erke – referring, for example, to the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe, which has again been awarded as the best wellness hotel in Germany by the RELAX GUIDE, or the Eden Roc in Ascona, which has been awarded the most popular holiday hotel in Switzerland for five years running now by the SonntagsZeitung.
